Stan Trzoniec 162 pages hardcover

For railroads, the Baltimore & Ohio is hard to beat. For locations, and tucked into the southwestern part of Pennsylvania and running over the top of the Allegany Mountains, for enthusiasts, it is simply a great place to visit. Within the pages of his latest Heritage Series book, Stan Trzoniec takes the readers on a town-by-town journey that starts at the historic yard in Cumberland, Maryland. Moving west, you go through the Narrows into the flat land and the start of a serious elevation at Hyndman. From here, Fairhope, Glencoe, Falls Cut Tunnel and the famous horseshoe curve at Mance comes into view. For train engineers, the steep rise at Guard Rail curve can be troublesome with a heavy load, and then into the long tunnel and the 2258-foot summit at Sand Patch. Here, the area can be a beehive of activity as helpers are dropped and moved around while the train now enters the West Slope. Moving downgrade we drift into towns named Meyersdale, Garrett, Rockwood, Casselman, Ursina, Ohiopyle, the now deserted WH Tower at Green Junction at the end of the yard and finally, Connellsville, Pennsylvania all documented with B&O Historical Society vintage images with full color modern photography by the author.
