Stan Trzoniec 245 pages hardcover

With dozens of never before seen vintage photographs of the Boston & Maine railroad, Stan Trzoniec continues with his Heritage Series of books with the Fitchburg Division of this famous railroad. Stretching from Ayer, Massachusetts to over the border to Rotterdam Junction, New York, classic color and black and white photographs and antique postcards are featured in this new book of various locations. Starting in Ayer, Massachusetts, you will see how the old station in the 1920ミs served a large crossover complex with a unique signaling array and interchange. Moving, west we run by Fitchburg with its gorgeous station complete with a handsome clock tower and team tracks for shorter RDC cars. Called the Fitchburg Union Station it was designed by H.M. Francis and built in 1877 serving both the Boston & Maine and the New Haven railroads. Gardner comes up fast and he details the importance of this location, both yesterday and today. We continue west with Baldwinville, Royalston, Millers Falls, Montague arriving in East Deerfield, still one of the hot spots on the line. From old color slides, we document a long list of Boston & Maine motive power and some of the older structures rarely seen in the railroad books today. Stan hits most of the towns between here and the Hoosac Tunnel complete with rare photos of the complete area including the electric engines that plied the rails helping steam engines through the bore. Out of the tunnel, North Adams is next, Johnsonville is featured, then into Vermont, Mechanicville and finally Rotterdam, NY. Baker1
