The railroads were in the initial stages of decline when the photos in this book were taken over a period of a year beginning in late 1950.The trucking industry was making inroads across America at a startling place. But you wouldn't have been aware of any lessening of activity on the Erie Railroad in North Jersey. From Mountain View east to Jersey City, the Erie was moving freight and passengers at a noticeable clip. Its branches large and small were in a state of constant activity. Those scenes were captured by a man named John who spent a few days racing along the Erie's right of ways taking photos with his new camera. An idea of what was going on in a very different, much simpler North Jersey is pleasantly presented in this volume. Echo1
