This task is not as easy as it might seem because the Santa Fe realigned divisional boundaries in 1907, 1931, 1958 and several times between 1980 and 1996, when it merged with the Burlington Northern. For simplicity_s sake we will use the divisional organization that was in effect following the 1931 reorganization, the classic period of the ATSF. At that time, the Santa Fe was organized into four grand divisions, the Eastern Lines, the Western Lines, the Coast Lines and the Gulf Lines.
