Tony Koester hardcover
The 1970s was a transitional period in railroading, fascinating to railfans and modelers alike. Many smaller Class I railroads were still operating, as the mega-mergers of the 1980s and later were still a decade away. There was tremendous variety in locomotives and equipment still running, including first-generation diesels just appearing. Coal operations in that region and era was king, but with a number of small mines and loadouts still in operation on remote branches throughout the area.
