THE
MIDLAND AND TWO CENTRALS features steam power in action on the Chicago
& Illinois Midland, New York Central, and Illinois Central in the
mid-1950s as filmed in color by railfan author/photographer John
Szwajkart. The action begins on a cold winter day in 1954 at the
C&IM yard in Springfield. 0-8-0s, 2-8-2s, 2-10-2s, and a 4-4-0 are
shown, along with B&O 2-8-0s. In the Kankakee area, you'll see NYC
Hudsons, Mohawks, and 0-8-0s, and chase 4-8-2s on Illinois Central's
main line to Champaign. A visit to IC's Kentucky Division offers
exciting views of steam in action near Paducah, featuring 4-8-2s,
2-10-2s, and more. You'll also tour the Central City yards and ride
behind an IC fantrip 4-8-2. This fine program is narrated by Jim Boyd,
Editor of Railfan Magazine.
MEMORIES
OF BURLINGTON DIESELS offers a portrait of diesels in action on the
Chicago, Burlington & Quincy Railroad. Filmed between the late 1930s
and mid-1960s, the program presents Q freight and passenger trains on
the main line between Chicago and Galesburg, Illinois, powered by an
interesting variety of locomotives ranging from early Zephyrs to GP30s.
Rare newsreel coverage of the original Burlington Zephyr is also
included. A colorful tribute to a great railroad, complete with a
fully-synchronized soundtrack!
Locomotives
and trains featured: EMD E5, E7, E8, E9, plus early EMC Zephyr
trainsets; FT, F2, F3, F7, GP7, GP20, GP30, SD24 freight locomotives
plus rail detector car and heavy crane. Name trains include Kansas City
Zephyr, Nebraska Zephyr, American Royal Zephyr, California Zephyr,
Zephyr-Rocket, and Pioneer Zephyr trainset.
