This is an overview of the many ordinary and spectacular bridges and hidden culverts built on the C&O's Piedmont and Mountain Subdivisions.  Starting in Richmond and heading to Hanover Junction before heading west to Charlottesville, Staunton and Buffalo Gap, before heading down to Millboro and Terminating on the east side of Clifton Forge.  These bridges were built by the Virginia Central and Chesapeake & Ohio.  While some have been abandoned, most are still in use by Amtrak, CSX and the Buckingham Branch Railroad. Many of these bridges were targets of Federal cavalry raids during the Civil War.  With the development of steel and improved steel rolling technology in the 1890s, many of these bridges were replaced with newer, more modern designs.  This book details these bridges with numerous photographs.
