This “Critical Edition” is an inside look at the Cleveland & Eastern
Railway (C&E) system in which millions of riders used to get from
Cleveland to Geauga County. Included are detailed maps and blueprints of
the right-of-way along with the largest photo achieve ever published of
the line.
This edition includes two other railroads that were connected and in
business with the Cleveland & Eastern Railway. They were the
Baltimore & Ohio Railroad and the Nickel Plate Railroad. Maps and
photos connect these railroads.
Readers will enjoy the “Tales on the Trails” chapter which presents true
stories by some of Geauga County’s Amish Community whose grandparents
worked and rode on the rails.
Chardon became the rail capital east of Cleveland, and was known as a
“Jerkwater” town. Geauga County forests play a major role in this book,
as they, like large portions of America’s forest lands were cut down to
build our villages and railroads.
Gates Mill, OH has discovered the railyard under their village.
