This book will focus on the details of railroading in crowded metro and urban areas, with lots of prototype photos plus ideas and tips showing how to model these areas realistically and effectively. The primary focus will be as a "prototype guide to" industrial railroads and branches (such as the Los Angeles Junction; the Manufacturers Railway in St. Louis; and the "milling district" in Minneapolis), plus a look at large-city belt line railroads that serve multiple large railroads (such as Belt Railway of Chicago; New Orleans Public Belt). Key features include showing street running/tracks winding among large buildings; typical urban industrial buildings (and their rail- and truck-served docks); compact freight yards (including specialty yards such as intermodal; fruit/vegetable; less-than-carload; automobile); track considerations (tight curves, turnouts, crossings); and elevated track and other specialized infrastructure in urban areas.
