This is the story of the Quicny & Torch Lake Railroad. This railroad was built exclusively by the Quincy Mining Company to both transport their copper rock down to their mill on Torch Lake as well as bring coal up to the mines. Instead of contracting outside companies, management decided to do it on their own. It was definitely a challenge. Purchasing equipment, constructing railroad tracks and related structures and the actual running of the railroad was a very different endeavor from the business of mining copper. This book tells that story. With numerous illustrations, maps and drawings, the reader can easily visualize how this essential part of the company contributed to the success of Quincy Mine. The technical descriptions of the railroad equipment are explained in such a way that even a sasual reader can fully understand them and all will marvel at their ingenuity.
