STEAMTOWN USA
One of the most famous
tourist lines in the United States features the nation’s largest array
of steam locomotives: the famed Steamtown Collection, in Scranton,
Pennsylvania.
Brainchild of the late industrialist, F. Nelson
Blount, Steamtown began as a small collection of historical rail
equipment tucked away in the rugged woods of Vermont.
The
collection was moved to Scranton, where today, Steamtown is a National
Park. Steamtown operates both steam and diesel powered excursions on the
former Delaware, Lackawanna & Western into the Pocono Mountains.
This
program features several excursion runs using ex-Canadian Pacific 2317
and Canadian National 3254 as Lackawanna 2317 and 1271, plus Lackawanna
painted diesels 514 and 880.
You’ll also enjoy a cab ride up the mountain, along with many of Steamtown’s static displays.
