This book, "Chesapeake & Ohio 0-8-0 Steam Switching Locomotives," contains the history and photos of all the 0-8-0 wheel-arrangement steam locomotives that the C&O used as switching engines. They were purpose-built for moving long cuts of cars around terminal yards and for breaking up and assembling trains to dispatch over the railway. They could be found at all the C&O's yard facilities. The era covered begins in 1903 and ends in 1956. C&O pioneered the 0-8-0 type switcher with its purchase of the first one in 1903 and was among the last to buy new ones, in 1948. Former Pere Marquette Railway and Hocking Valley Railway 0-8-0s that entered the C&O roster when those lines were merged also are treated. Many never-before published builder and action photos are included as well as extensive historical data.
