This book is the sixth volume in a series that covers the D&H from south to north. The text is historical in
nature while the photographic coverage is confined to the period 1960 – 1983 (pre-Guilford). It begins with
Ballston Spa and Saratoga Springs and proceeds northward to Rouses Point with modest coverage of the
Napierville Junction Railroad at Rouses Point and D&H passenger operations to Montreal. There is extensive
coverage, text and photographs, of the Adirondack Branch as well as operations in Vermont on the Washington
and Rutland Branches. Other branches are covered as well but, given the era of their operation, coverage is
limited to historical text. The iron ore and paper industries receive substantial coverage as is the case with the
Tahawus (Sanford Lake) operation of National Lead. The PA’s and Sharks appear in many images.
159 color and 18 black and white images have been contributed by Richard Allen, Richard Pennisi, Robert
Pennisi, Gordon Smith, Richard Taylor and the author.
